Make the Most of Small Spaces with Keystone Plants

Want to have an outsized impact in a micro-sized garden? Invest in some of the most beneficial, or keystone plants and you can support hundreds of species of insects.

“In the past, we have asked one thing of our gardens, that they be pretty. Now they have to support life, sequester carbon, feed pollinators and manage water.” - Doug Tallamy

ABOUT US

The Moth Garden: your guide to using native plants in any outdoor space.

My name is Michelle Minoff and I have recently completed my certificate in Sustainable Gardening and Native Plants at the SUNY Native Plant Center.  I spent the 10 years before that gardening in my suburban yard in the Hudson Valley of New York State.

In that time I’ve experienced some successes and made LOTS of mistakes.  I believe that those mistakes played an important part in my journey toward developing a more sustainable partnership with my yard and its wildlife v. trying to achieve mastery of it. The desire to create a verdant space for the plants, insects and animals in my micro-region to enjoy, has begun to give more enjoyment to me and my family as well.

This process can also been very empowering in a world where environmental forces seem out of our control. Adding more native plants to your area is a real and tangible step you can take immediately! You have the power to create any outdoor space you have into a more useful environment that adds biodiversity.  I can help you get started.
